I now have a wardrobe guide for actors on my site. It really does save me a lot of texting.
Note that most of these rules apply only to actors, such as not wearing jewellery and keeping things simple. The reason being that casting departments like to focus on the face, free of other distractions. Authors, musicians, comedians and others are usually more free to accessorize and experiment with clothes.
Corporate headshots and portraits are a whole other story, as your wardrobe choices reflect the image you’re trying to put forward as part of your branding. If you’re a conservative company, dress conservatively. If the company is edgy, your clothes and accessories can reflect that. Makes sense, right?
